danse macabre

Illustration from the Nuremberg Chronicle (1493)
danse macabre
Welcome to the Unmasquerade

the midnight dancers spin

their tarantella 'round the fire,

spinning to the left,

ever to the left,

in masqueraded gyre.

Our Documents and Flags in flames

to feed their ecstasy,

spinning to the left,

ever to the left,

in pitched velocity.

“collusion!” spin. “obstruction!” spin.

“treason!” then, round again,

spinning to the left,

ever to the left,

in nouveau versailles' fen.

their voices chant, and shriek, and wail.

the night splits with the sound.

and spinning to the left,

ever to the left,

each mask spins to the ground.

And now, Our Morning breaks with Song

of Independence Day.

And in that Light,

We see aright...

they've spun their masks away.
