The Turning

Ocean Surface Wave 2009
The Turning
for Independence Day. 200...

They forced the flowing of the oceans –

now it ebbs and never swells,

built their castles on our beaches –

monuments and citadels,

claimed to rule over our people

whom they do not know nor love,

bid us bow to their new order

or face fist inside their glove.

As with ocean that's receded,

so our Land and Liberty.

We're not solely so afflicted,

they've laid claim to ev'ry sea.

But Old England shook an Earthquake

far across Atlantic wide,

shook mad king to his foundations,

loosed the turning of the tide.

So, all you heirs of Aeneas,

you unbroken yet oppressed,

you who know those thought our betters

seldom ever know what's best,

sing you now a song of Freedom,

join far English pipes and drums,

sing, “what's built of sand shall crumble

for soon the tsunami comes.”

Sing, “Old England shook an Earthquake

far across Atlantic wide,

shook mad king to his foundations,

loosed the turning of the tide!”

Sing you now that song of Freedom,

join far English pipes and drums,

sing, “what's built of sand shall crumble

for soon the tsunami comes!”
